Casual Flights

This week we again just flew rockets for the fun of it. The night before we built a rocket out of old 2L spliced pairs of bottles that probably last saw action around 3-4 years ago. For the deployment mechanism we just screwed on a 90mm deployment mechanism that we normally use on our Axion rockets.

We only pressurised the rocket to 110psi just to make sure it didn't spontaneously turn into confetti. The flight was a little anaemic with 2.1L of water, the higher drag and lower pressure all combined to give a slow take off.

We then assembled the full length Axion rocket and flew it 3 times. The rocket flew well with the mis-aligned fins ensuring that the rocket had a decent roll that balanced out the slight bend in the rocket. What was interesting with this longer configuration was the longer thrust phase.

Paul also flew his two model rockets, the "Fireflight" on a B6-4 and his "Black Thunder" on a C6-3. Both flew great and recovered safely.

All in all it was a good day for flying.
